Biogradska gora National Park

The central place in the park is occupied by Lake Biograd. Since 1878, when local fraternities and tribes donated this area to the then ruler of Montenegro - Prince Nikola, who declared this pearl of nature a "prince's ban" - the area is under state protection.

The park has 26 plant communities with about 2,000 species and subspecies. More than 200 species of birds have been recorded, including the crusader eagle. The fauna consists of deer, roe deer, chamois, wolves, wild boars, foxes, rabbits, and the NP area is a habitat for more than 350 species of insects.

At an altitude of 1,094 meters, in the heart of the rainforest, lies Biograd Lake, the largest and most famous in a series of glacial lakes in the park. It is a famous picnic area, with arranged parking space, restaurant, bungalows, lighted walking paths and camping space. In the summer months it attracts a large number of tourists, especially transit tourists who stop here on the way to the sea looking for shelter from the high temperatures.

The area of the National Park and Biograd Lake is also known for archeological sites, sacral monuments and folk architecture - log cabins, towers, mills, etc.

NP Biogradska gora has a Visitor Center, which is located on the shores of Lake Biograd. The center is equipped with an interactive presentation and exhibits that represent the natural and cultural values of the park.
