Everything you didn't know about the event for which Montenegro is recognizable

mi1

Already in February, Herceg Novi looks as if spring has arrived, thanks to the magical mimosa - the trademark of the Montenegrin coast and the famous Mimosa Festival, which this city and Montenegro have been known for for more than half a century.

This year's edition, in addition to carnivals, festivals, exhibitions and many other programs, brings something completely new! The specialty of the 54th Mimosa Festival is Winter Flower - a one-day masked music event, organized by Exit and the Herceg Novi Tourism Organization, where the maestro of the world house scene, the mysterious Claptone, will perform! The most special event in Montenegro will be complemented by the unparalleled musical name of the region - Konstrakt, with the band Zemlja Gruva, with local support from the young and talented Kate and Montenegrin DJs P.S. and Bodzie.

We bring you the main information about this event, which presents Montenegro to the region and the world in the best possible light.

1. Why is mimosa one of the most special flowers in the world?

The fragrant yellow flower, mimosa, originates from Australia, and was brought to Herceg Novi by the famous sailors from Boka  from their distant travels. Due to the favorable climate, Mediterranean air and about 200 sunny days a year, this flower soon became widespread and permanently settled in Herceg Novi. Mimosa, the only flower that blooms during winter, is an important symbol for many peoples - it is a symbol of women, emancipation, freedom and sensitivity. It also symbolizes resurrection and immortality, signifies respect and kindness, and carries a message of faithful love. The mimosa, which blooms despite the winter, turning the entire Herzegovinian riviera into a luxurious garden, is the trademark of the festival and winter tourism of Boka Bay  and the Montenegrin coast.

2. Carnival, festivals, concerts, competitions, exhibitions... Something for everyone!

A large number of diverse manifestations take place within the festival, among which the most attractive are: carnival processions, masquerade balls for children and adults, the Mimosa, Fish and Wine Festival which attracts around 20,000 guests every year, the International Flower Exhibition and promenade concerts by brass bands and majorettes. Exhibitions, concerts, literary and stage programs in local production and guest appearances by well-known performers from the region, as well as the presentation of the culture and gastronomic traditions of Herceg Novi's friendly countries and cities make the festival program comprehensive and irresistibly attractive to guests from the entire region and Europe. In addition, during the Mimosa Festival, numerous sports competitions and adventure challenges in nature are held thanks to the fact that the climatic conditions of Herceg Novi are very favorable. All in all, Mimosa Festival is special because it brings content for all generations!

3. The biggest novelty of this year – Exit's Winter Flower!

As part of the 54th Mimosa Festival, Winter Flower will be held on Saturday, February 25, a large one-day music event under masks, organized by Exit and the Herceg Novi Tourist Organization. The name Winter Flower is exactly Exit's dedication to mimosa, the only flower that blooms during winter. This natural rebel thereby transcends laws and rules in a unique way. The first Winter Flower will mark the premiere Montenegrin performance of one of the most popular artists of the world house scene, the masked Claptone, who delights audiences all over the world with his memorable parties. The regional woman of the year, the fantastic Konstructa, together with the group Zemlja Gruva, also performs with him. Local support will be provided by the charming rising star Kate, along with representatives of the Montenegrin electronic scene P.S. and Bodzie. Winter Flower is the specialty of this year's edition, and the fantastic and masked Claptone is expected to give the masked crowd one of the most special nights Mimosa Festival remembers.

4. We have been celebrating the Mimosa Festival since 1969!

The longest-running festival in this area was founded way back in 1969 and soon became one of the most visited events in the former state. In 1975, this festival was officially opened by Josip Broz Tito, and the first lady of the then SFRY, Jovanka Broz, only two years later. Every year, the mimosa festival gathers all generations from many cities of Montenegro, regions and Europe on the streets of Herzegovina, celebrating the end of winter and the arrival of spring.

5. Stars of the Mimosa Festival – majorettes

The performance of majorettes is a unique form of performing art that combines elements of dance and gymnastics with marching. Majorettes are the stars of the Mimosa Festival, performing complex and often daring movements to the rhythm of the music. With their colorful costumes, glittering batons and stunning moves, majorettes have been delighting audiences for generations. The famous majorettes participated in the opening of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, and the carnival of majorettes, accompanied by trombone players and wind instruments, toured over 50 cities across Europe. Majorettes are the trademark of the Mimosa Festival and they are already preparing a choreography that will delight us again this year!
