Experiences of digital nomad Leonie from Berlin during her stay in Montenegro

Numerous digital nomads come to Montenegro in greater and greater numbers every year. As a result, the establishment of a visa for digital nomads, more and more coworking spaces. In addition, good conditions for work and rest at the same time.

Numerous destinations by the sea and lakes as well as national parks attract an increasing number of digital nomads. Some of the numerous reasons for the arrival of digital nomads are the mild climate, affordable prices and good air connections from local and surrounding airports

It often happens that digital nomads leave our country with a large majority of positive impressions and often share them on their social networks, blogs and other channels. One such example is a digital nomad who shared her impressions, primarily about the pagodas and places that left a special impression on her.

I'm Leonie, 30 years old, and I was born and raised in Berlin. 🌆 I'm am now a so called Digital Nomad, which means I work remotely from anywhere in the world - especially those places close to the sea. 💦🐠🌎 For the past 3.5 years, I've been living this lifestyle, and I'm so grateful for the decision that has brought me so much freedom, adventure, incredible encounters, and happiness. Of course, it's not always smooth sailing while traveling and working – there are times of stress with internet issues, not-so-great accommodations, and moments of loneliness. 🌧️🏠 But the beauty of it all far outweighs the challenges. 🌟

National park Durmitor and Black Lake

After exploring the Dolomites, Austria, and Norway, I never expected to stumble upon the most stunning mountain lake in Montenegro. 🇲🇪 The Black Lake (Crno Jezero), located in the country's north, surrounded by forests and the vast expanse of Durmitor National Park, left me in awe. Despite being one of Montenegro's popular spots, I was lucky enough, even on weekends, to have parts of the lake almost all to myself. Unlike many lakes in Austria or the Dolomites, there's only one building on the lakeshore (a modest little restaurant). Otherwise, you're treated to a unobstructed, breathtaking view of the forest, mountains, and the beautiful water - and all that without mass tourism!

Skadar Lake...

This weekend trip to 📍 Skadar Lake, Montenegro 🇲🇪 was like a perfect retreat for me. The place is calm, beautiful, and surrounded by tall mountains, which makes it a perfect place to relax and find peace. No mass tourism awaits you here! ❌
🚗 It takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive from Budva to Skadar Lake National Park. There is also a bus option available to Virpazar, but it's important to check the schedules, as they may vary depending on the time of year and specific routes.

🦅 The lake is like a home for many birds, so it's perfect if you enjoy bird watching.

🚣 The place is absolutely perfect for kayaking, because many areas of the lake can only be reached by boat. You can dive deep into nature's smells and sounds while going by yourself with a kayak. 🍷 What's cool about Skadar Lake is that I get a better idea of Montenegrin culture and local people. In this area you can also taste amazing Montenegrin wine. My favourite winery in the area was @winery.garnet ! 💦 Of course you can also swim in the Skadar Lake. Two beaches I can recommend here are Godinje Beach and Murići Beach

Last weekend I visited the stunning Tara river and it's canyon, an absolute must-visit when traveling to Montenegro. 🇲🇪 The canyon is one of Europe's deepest canyons and the river stretches for 82 kilometers, with depths plunging as low as 1,300 meters! 🌊🏞️ It's water temperature is between 8 - 12 degrees… this didn't keep me from jumping in! 🙈💦

My month in Montenegro was not only full of wonders, beauty and happiness but also helped me to reconnect to myself and what life I aim for!
Every single day I was connected to my element, water. 🌊
Not only in my costal home near Budva, but especially when you get away from the coast and explore the countryside of Montenegro, you can feel the special energy that comes from nature and water in its purest form. 😇 Whether it's the ocean, this mountain lake here or the ice-cold Tara river, I feel like the city's stress has been washed away.

After one months living and working remotely in Montenegro as a Digital Nomad, I'd loved to share my favourite places with you… 🥰

1. Biogradska Gora is a breathtaking national park located in northern Montenegro, known for its remarkable natural beauty, such as the huge forest, a mountain lake and an endless variety of hiking routes. 🌲🍃

2. Crno Jezero (Black Lake) - a hidden gem nestled in the Montenegrin mountains. 🏞️💙

3. Godinje, an abandoned village where you can try some amazing montenegrin wine and experience the peaceful countryside. 🏡🌄

4. Perazica Do Beach, the perfect escape for beach lovers, that want to hide from mass tourism, loud bare and ridiculous sunbed fees☀️

5. Kotor's ancient walls, a UNESCO World Heritage site, encircle the city of Kotor since the 9th century. You can hike up the stairs, explore the stone labyrinth and experience unparalleled views of the stunning Bay of Kotor. ⛰️🏰
