Have you visited Sveti Vid ?

The cult of Sveti Vid was once widespread on the Adriatic coast. His respect in the Church is very old, and it has spread all over Europe. All the churches, some of which have been demolished and some partially or completely rebuilt, have in common that they were built on the tops of hills.

One of them is the church of Sveti Vid - located on the hill of the same name, above Gornja Lastva. From the plateau where the church is located, there is a unique view of part of the Bay of Kotor, Tivat Bay, Lustica, Prevlaka, Verige, partly Kotor and Risan Bay, Vrmac, Orjen, Lovcen  

The oldest mention of the church of Sveti Vid on the hill above Gornja Lastva is in the notarial books of the Kotor archive, which dates from 1327, however, the time of construction of the church is not known. Experts believe that the method of construction leads to the conclusion that the church may have been built earlier, even in the Byzantine era.

The Church of Sveti Vid has suffered on several occasions in the past from natural disasters and from the Turks.

On July 30, 1662, Bishop Sborovazzi wrote down the "approaches" to the church of St. Vida, which is located at the top of the hill, is all made of stone, destroyed and looted by the Turks because of the impending war, in which the dead from the village of Lastva are buried… " 

The church of Sveti Vid can be reached from Gornja Lastva through the hamlet of Orašje by a narrow winding path that is adapted to the steep and rocky terrain.
