The best locations for diving in Montenegro

diving

The sea of Montenegro definitely provides the conditions for a quality diving experience, whether it is for experienced divers or those who are venturing into the depths of the sea for the first time.

The underwater world of the Adriatic abounds with many underwater caves and corals that create the most beautiful diving scenes. What should be emphasized is that this, although a small sector of tourism in Montenegro, provides a very diverse and safe diving experience for all tourists who want to experience it.

Below we list several attractive diving locations, which prove that luxuriously furnished apartments for rent and beautiful beaches are not the only tourist assets when it comes to Montenegro.

Poseidon's city - visit the underwater caves

An abundance of coral and algae surrounds the caves, giving them an added beauty that underwater world enthusiasts really appreciate. In addition to the rich aquatic flora, in this area you can also meet representatives of the aquatic fauna that inhabit the city of Poseidon.

The average depth of this diving site is about 18 meters, while the maximum depth does not exceed 40 meters. The level of visibility is rated as excellent.

Mamula Fortress - a historical symbol and a good diving location

The Mamula fortress is located on the island of Lastvica, which is often called by the name of the fortress itself. It is a location that brings something new with every diving experience, which is why it is one of the favorites among experienced divers, as well as beginners with the support of professionals.

During numerous wars throughout history, the fortress served as a defense facility that protected the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, and at one time also as a prison facility. Today it is a well-known historical symbol and an association of quality diving, with an average depth of 18 and a maximum of 40 meters.

Blue cave - the place where the sea has the most beautiful color

The Blue Cave on the Luštica peninsula is one of the favorite tourist spots in Montenegro, since it is approached from the surface of the water from where it is possible to enter the cave. Nevertheless, divers love this place because of everything that the cave hides under the surface of the water, where various types of fish, octopuses and other interesting representatives of marine fauna live.

The place got its name from the beautiful blue color that is created due to the refraction of the sun's rays on the waves, and the underwater world certainly hides an even richer color that the underwater life contributes to. The average depth of the cave is 11 meters, and the maximum is 20 meters. According to divers who regularly visit the Blue Cave for diving, the visibility is excellent!

Gallia shipwreck - exploration of the 16th century wreck

The Galia shipwreck dates back to the 16th century when it was built, but also sunk in a location that is extremely popular among divers today. The wreck lies at a depth of 33 meters, which, unlike most other diving sites, is intended exclusively for experienced divers. It is very interesting to observe the remains of the ship, such as anchors and large cannons, and some of them were pulled ashore and placed in the museum of Herceg Novi.

Sirena – an underwater corridor without natural light

Sirena is also one of the favorite diving locations in Montenegro, which actually represents a naturally formed vertical underwater corridor, which is deprived of natural light. The entrance to Sirena is at a depth of five meters, and the exit is at a depth of about 30 meters. Such conditions require somewhat greater diving experience, as well as additional diving equipment, which necessarily includes an underwater lamp.

Experienced divers claim that exploring the underwater world at this place has a completely different dimension, and that diving with the Siren should definitely be experienced if you have already dived at other, slightly easier diving locations.

Whether you are an experienced diver or a sea lover just getting ready for your first dive, these suggestions can be helpful if you are unsure about the location where you will be diving. Keep in mind all the conditions that the locations provide, as well as your own diving experience, which is sometimes crucial when choosing a dive site.

Once you have determined which location is ideal for you, all that remains is to enjoy the beautiful underwater world of the Adriatic, which will certainly fascinate you at first glance.
