"The keys to the city are in the hands of carnivalists until March 3rd!" Let the party begin" - these are the words that marked the beginning of the 55th Mimosa Festival in Herceg Novi "For all tastes". Over 25,000 visitors, according to the organizers, were waiting for the arrival of the festive procession and warming up the atmosphere with the excellent band Teška industrija. This was followed by a spectacular concert by regional star Halid Bešlić, hits that the audience sang aloud, and the assessment that another record was broken in Herceg Novi.
The shots of the trombone players were a sign that it was time to fly the flag of the Mimosa Festival on the city's Tora, but also for the festive parade of majorettes, HN City Music and Đenović Local Music, masquerades, locals and guests to leave from Nikola Đurković Square towards Igalo. In the procession were also leaders of local self-government, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Montenegro, ministries, as well as leaders of sister cities and friends of Herceg Novi.
Opening the traditional flower festival, the President of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, Stevan Katic, pointed out that the Mimosa Festival means joy, strengthens friendships and creates new ones, defies winter and heralds spring, brings fun and celebrates life.
"That's why the Festival has been going on for 55 years, and we nurture and develop it with special care. Over 70 programs are waiting for you, which will be held until March 3, and I believe that each of you will find something interesting for yourself and enjoy. We will see each other at Barbie mimosas, masquerade balls, concerts, various cultural, gastronomic and sports programs, which is why, among other things, we received the title of European City of Sports. Don't miss the International Carnival with hundreds of participants, and I hope you'll enjoy the open-air masked ball in Boca Park, the judging and the burning of the carnival. All of these are festivities with a long tradition of the Mimosa Festival", said President Katic and handed over the keys to the city to the Mimosa Festival Cap, Mić Damjanović.
"To my satisfaction, the audience is in the mood for singing, I like that contact with people, I like when people sing in unison. I'm not the type of performer who closes in on himself and the band and doesn't see anyone around him, that contact with the audience is very important. I have the feeling that we were very well received, the songs were sung at the top of our voices, and I hope that this is not the last time we hang out," said Mijatović.
