Life by the Sea: Spring Brings the “Wind Festival” to Tivat

The Wind Festival — an event dedicated to the culture of life by the sea — will be held for the fifth time in Tivat, from April 24 to May 23.

The program includes four weeks of sports, educational, cultural, and entertainment events at various locations. This year, parts of the festival program will also take place in Kotor and Herceg Novi, opening the possibility for the event to grow from a Tivat festival into a broader Bay of Kotor festival.

Although primarily focused on sailing, the Wind Festival also offers a variety of engaging activities from different fields. 

Everything begins on Friday, April 24, with the Small Tivat Regatta – Gadbois CUP, which will bring together children from sailing clubs across Montenegro. The event is competitive but also promises plenty of social interaction and fun.

The official opening of the festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, with a concert by Bajaga & Instruktori, starting at 9 PM on Pine waterfront (Pine promenade).

"That evening, there will be space on Pine for everyone — for those who grew up with these songs and for those just discovering them. For those who believe the sea is best shared, and that spring is the perfect moment to fall in love again — with music, with the town, and with the coast before us," say the organizers, noting that it is no coincidence that Bajaga is opening the Wind Festival.

On Sunday, April 26, the 21st Tivat Cruiser Regatta – UNA Montenegro CUP will take place, one of the longest-running and most recognizable cruiser regattas in the Bay of Kotor.

Second Weekend

On Thursday, May 7, a conference titled "Bay of Kotor as a Sustainable Nautical Destination I" will be held at the Municipality of Tivat.
The second part of the conference is planned for the following day in Dobrota.

The "Evening of Klapa Singing", envisioned as a gathering of generations and cities, will take place on May 9 at the Church of St. Anthony (Tripovići) starting at 8 PM.

This year's edition will feature ten Montenegrin klapa groups from Tivat, Kotor, Budva, Nikšić, and Podgorica.

"The audience can expect a diverse program of female, mixed, and children's klapa groups, presenting the richness of klapa music through traditional and modern arrangements," organizers announce.

Alongside the music, guests will enjoy wine and light refreshments, in the spirit of Mediterranean hospitality.

The Veterans Regatta, a sporting event celebrating experience, sailing knowledge, and love for the sea, will be held on May 10 at 11 AM.

"Sea Matters", an event designed as an open fair of the maritime community, will take place on May 15 at the Pine waterfront starting at 4 PM.

On that day, Pine becomes a meeting place for sailors, fishermen, divers, craftsmen, artists, and everyone whose work, inspiration, or everyday life is connected to the sea.

"Special attention is devoted to the development and improvement of the craft sector, recognized as one of the important economic opportunities for the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the local community," organizers explain.

The "Sea Matters" fair is organized by the Delfin Sailing Club in cooperation with the Tivat Business Info Center.

A public discussion titled "The Defense of Vrmac and the Last Days" will be held on Saturday, May 16, at 7 PM, at the Cultural Center in Gornja Lastva.

Free shuttle transportation will be organized for interested citizens from the center of Tivat to Gornja Lastva. After the discussion, participants and guests will enjoy a special gastronomic experience titled "Heritage in a Pot", along with a musical program inspired by the traditions of Gornja Lastva.

On May 17, the international exhibition "People of the Sea" will open for the fourth time as part of the Wind Festival, at the Tivat Museum and Gallery, starting at 8 PM.

This exhibition presents a visual story about life on the Adriatic and will be displayed across two gallery levels, allowing visitors to enjoy carefully selected works exploring the people, stories, and traditions of coastal life over a 15-day exhibition period.

Fourth Weekend

All programs of the fourth week of the Wind Festival will take place on Saturday, May 23.

The Urban Downhill Race will be held in Herceg Novi starting at 11 AM. This year, the race moves from the slopes of Vrmac to the dynamic urban terrain of Herceg Novi.

"Combining sport, speed, and the dramatic urban setting of the Old Town, the race transforms the historic stairs of Herceg Novi into a dynamic course where skill, courage, and precision come to the forefront," organizers say.

Later that day, at 8 PM on Ponte Seljanovo, visitors can enjoy a performance by the Podgorica band Wider Horizons, performing a Pink Floyd tribute.

Timeless hits performed on an open stage by the sea will create a cinematic atmosphere — the perfect introduction to the festival's final night.

After that, at 10 PM at the same location, there will be a concert by the legendary Serbian folk-rock band Orthodox Celts.

"Admission is free, and the atmosphere at Ponte Seljanovo promises a unique musical evening with sunset views, guitar sounds, and rhythms that connect generations," the organizers conclude.
