Wizz Air has announced that it will open its 36th base in Podgorica, which they describe as a major step in their continued growth in the country and a turning point for Montenegro's air transport sector and economy.

Starting in March 2026, Wizz Air will gradually station two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft in Podgorica and launch 14 new routes connecting the capital with key European cities, including

This expansion brings one million additional seats per year and positions Podgorica as a vibrant link to Europe," the company emphasized.

With this move, Wizz Air reinforces its role as the number one airline at Podgorica Airport and moves closer to becoming the leading carrier in Montenegro.

The opening of the base is expected to create 80 direct and 700 indirect jobs, boosting local employment and strengthening tourism, trade, and connectivity.

Wizz Air CEO József Váradi highlighted the airline's deep commitment to Montenegro's future by expanding affordable travel options for its citizens, supporting sustainable aviation with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, stimulating tourism and related industries, and strengthening Podgorica's role as a regional transport hub.

"We are proud to deepen our roots in Podgorica and bring new opportunities to the people of Montenegro. This base represents much more than operational expansion—it is a long-term investment in the future of mobility, the economy, and Montenegro's global connectivity," said Váradi.

The CEO of Airports of Montenegro, Roko Tolić, stressed that the announcement of the Wizz Air base is a major day for Montenegrin aviation.

"I am especially happy because this is news that will delight all the citizens of Montenegro, as well as the entire economy. Still, we only have this one day to celebrate. Starting tomorrow, Airports of Montenegro must continue with important activities. In a short period—before next spring—we urgently need to upgrade our infrastructure and operational capacities, successfully organize extended working hours, and train new staff. We are ready for a third shift in Podgorica and determined to develop the Airports of Montenegro to a level that matches the potential of this unique country," said Tolić.

With today's announcement, Wizz Air is expanding its offer, and from next season, will operate a total of 23 routes from Podgorica, connecting Montenegro with 12 countries
