Nature Park "Piva" is located in the extreme northwest of Montenegro (between the state border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the border of the National Park "Durmitor") occupying a significant part of the municipality of Plužine (cadastral municipalities: Brijeg, Brljevo, Vojvodići, Vučevo, Jerinići, Mratinje, Recently, Nikovići, Miloševići, Stabna, Trsa, Unač, Crkvičko Polje and Šarići). The Piva Regional Park is a natural link between the Durmitor and Sutjeska National Parks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its establishment has been recognized by a number of national and international documents and initiatives
Regional Park has exceptional natural features. A very diverse relief whose most important characteristics are mountainous areas with rich pastures and forests, deeply incised giant canyons of Tara, Piva and Sušica and mountain lakes (Stabanjska and Trnovačko) already attract many nature lovers and adventurers from the region and beyond.
The area of the regional park has very diverse types of ecosystems and habitats. Elements of alpine flora and fauna are found on the peaks and high mountain areas, while along the canyons and river valleys (especially the rivers Piva and Tara) the warm air enables the elements of Mediterranean flora and fauna. There are over 1500 species of plants present in the regional park, many of which (over 80 registered so far) are rare and endangered species; there are also about 2000 species of fungi in this area; well-preserved forests of white and black pine, beech and fir, maple, spruce and ash, etc. only complete the richness of the flora in the park. Bears, wild boars, and deer also found their place in these forests of the regional park.
The rivers in the regional park, especially Tara and Piva, are rich in brown trout, grayling and juveniles. In the natural lakes of the regional park we can find the most characteristic representatives of the animals of Montenegrin high mountain lakes - tritons or murmurs.
The picture of the area is completed by about 20 smaller villages, well integrated into the area with characteristic original architecture as well as numerous traditional livestock huts, as elements of the cultural landscape that testify to the history, culture and heritage of Piva. Special living conditions have been created here, which preserve some of the last representatives of rare and protected species.
