Sharing my Montenegro expenses and how I did it
As much as you can cut on restaurants and activities, the biggest expense is often accommodation.

HOW?
By volunteering for 20h a week at a digital nomad coliving space, managing their social media, I had accommodation and a weekly allowance for groceries.
💰 In 30 days, I spent an extra 82€ on food, 100€ on car rental, 48€ on fuel, and 40€ on misc (boat tour, parking, NP and ATM fees, tips, pharmacy), for a total of 270€.

Welcome to Kotor and its purr-fect locals
Kotor has hundreds of stray cats, which are generally looked after and adored by locals and visitors alike . You can spot bowls of food and water left by shop owners and restaurant staff on the streets, but… they are still way too many to look after them all 😕
👉🏼 So, where do all these cats come from?
It's reported that in 1918, the Slav sailors would bring their ships ⛵️ into The Bay of Kotor, and with that their cats. Because the ships would bring in cats from all over the world, the feline population of Kotor is as extensive as it is multicultural 🌍
Montenegrin people also hold the belief that cats saved the town of Kotor! 🐱👑
Since it is located between sea and mountains, there were lots of rats and snakes, and the cats were necessary to protect the town from infestations. Hence, cats have become a symbol of good luck 🍀 for Montenegro.

One of the most interesting places you can visit in Montenegro
Carved into the face of a cliff, the white Ostrog Orthodox Monastery can be seen from kilometres away, contrasting with the greys and oranges of the natural rock ⛰️
This monastery is also associated with many miracles - over the years, many sick or injured visitors would come and said to be healed in this place, even in modern times 👀
Every year, tens of thousands of people make a pilgrimage to Ostrog Monastery ⛪️
HOW TO VISIT
The entrance is free, but tourists often skip this place because it's not easy to reach without a car, and also far from the famous Bay of Kotor.
Nevertheless, if you stay in Montenegro for a week or longer, my advice is to rent a car and explore more of this beautiful country 💛
✨ The perfect trip planning:
• After exploring the Bay of Kotor, rent a car and drive north to Ostrog Monastery (2h).
• Spend a night at Hotel Sokoline for the most breathtaking hotel views you'll experience 🥹, and continue heading north the next day to the Durmitor National Park.
• Visit the famous Black Lake 🏞️ and/or go on a hike, and make your way down to the bay again.
