Forget Traffic Jams and Hot Asphalt: Travel from Budva & Kotor to Dubrovnik by Catamaran

b_240630071

Anyone who has ever tried to cross the land border into Croatia in the middle of July knows that the journey often means hours of exhausting waiting at the Debeli Brijeg border crossing. The sun is blazing, engines are idling, and the stunning scenery quickly fades behind growing frustration. But what if travel did not have to be like that? What if you could cross the border gliding across the blue Adriatic Sea, enjoying a refreshing breeze and your morning coffee on deck?

This season, smart and sustainable solutions for regional tourism are finally taking shape. Adriatic Lines has launched a new high-speed catamaran service connecting Dubrovnik with the jewels of Montenegro's coast – Kotor and Budva. For all travelers, and especially for remote workers and digital nomads who want to stay mobile and productive without wasting time in traffic, this ferry connection is a complete game changer. No more summer traffic jams – just pure enjoyment along one of Europe's most beautiful coastal routes.

Two Routes, One Perfect Day Trip

The new service is much more than transportation from point A to point B; it is a mini-cruise experience. The concept has been designed to create ideal day-trip opportunities.

If you are based in Budva, you can sail to Dubrovnik in the morning, spend the day strolling along the famous Stradun, and return comfortably in the evening. On the other hand, if you are traveling from Dubrovnik to Kotor, you can enjoy a spectacular journey through the heart of the Bay of Kotor, arriving beneath the ancient walls of the UNESCO-listed Old Town.

Below is the complete catamaran schedule for the 2026 summer season, divided into operational periods.

1. Early and Late Summer Schedule (June 1 – June 28 | September 7 – September 30)

During these quieter periods, catamarans operate on a reduced schedule, making them perfect for extended weekends and relaxed excursions away from peak-season crowds.

Route: Budva ⇄ Dubrovnik (Friday and Sunday)
  • 09:00 – Departure from Budva
  • 11:00 – Arrival in Dubrovnik
  • 18:00 – Departure from Dubrovnik
  • 20:00 – Arrival in Budva
Route: Dubrovnik ⇄ Kotor (Monday and Wednesday)
  • 09:30 – Departure from Dubrovnik
  • 12:15 – Arrival in Kotor
  • 17:30 – Departure from Kotor
  • 20:15 – Arrival in Dubrovnik

2. Peak Summer Season (June 29 – September 6)

As summer reaches its peak, additional departures are introduced to ease road congestion and provide tourists with faster, more convenient travel throughout the region.

Route: Budva ⇄ Dubrovnik (Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday)
  • 09:00 – Departure from Budva
  • 11:00 – Arrival in Dubrovnik
  • 18:00 – Departure from Dubrovnik
  • 20:00 – Arrival in Budva
Route: Dubrovnik ⇄ Kotor (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday)
  • 09:30 – Departure from Dubrovnik
  • 12:15 – Arrival in Kotor
  • 17:30 – Departure from Kotor
  • 20:15 – Arrival in Dubrovnik

Practical Tips Before You Go

The open-sea journey between Budva and Dubrovnik takes just two hours, while the route to Kotor is slightly longer, around two hours and 45 minutes, due to reduced speed and careful navigation through the spectacular Bay of Kotor.

This mode of transport saves valuable time. Since the catamarans dock directly in the city harbors, the moment you step off the vessel you are already in the heart of the destination, ready to make the most of every minute of your day.

Given the strong demand and the limited capacity of the catamarans, booking tickets online in advance is highly recommended. Your summer holiday deserves a sea view—not the rear bumper of the car in front of you.
